Blodoffer

Here you can learn about my experience on Blodoffer!

Did you know?

My team and I wanted to make a game about Norse mythology for a long time!

Blodoffer

The year is February of 2019. I only need to finish my thesis and I'm officially a Master. A longtime friend comes to me and asks if I want to do the narrative for a Norse mythology game. The answer is yes, with a big smile! At the time, I was studying The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt for my thesis and I already had some knowledge of the myths!

I was told that the game was set in the "Viking" era and that the player had to choose gods while in the game. I started to read some books about the Norse culture and watch some movies and TV-series so I could learn through multiple angles. Through there, I found a legendary Viking battle that had multiple legendary heroes, such as Harald Wartooth and Sigurd Hring.

From there, the choice was easy; the player would control a clan that fought for one side. To make things easy for us, we chose a small island for our vertical slice. The player can choose to devote two types of gods: war gods or nature gods. The gods I chose for each side were Odin and Thor for war and Baldur and Freya for nature. Each god speaks to the player like he is inferior, and each one has a different personality.

Indie X

Our game was selected for the Indie-X 2019 edition. We showcased our game from November 14th through November 17th. We made a lot of new connections and met other developers! The game was overall praised by the gamers, and we obtained a lot of feedback. I also did a small presentation where I talked about the narrative choices of the game! You can check out the talk here: The talk!

Sadly, due to our team's having creative differences, we chose to pursue other offers. However, the main developers of the game would like to revisit the game and finish it!
